It's a question we don't often think of asking but I think it's a good way to think about what you're doing and why you're doing it. At home, at school, at the office. What do you want to contribute?
Do you not want to contribute anything? Then you might be in the wrong place! If you are in a place or position where you are only focused on what you can get you are short changing yourself and those you are interacting with.
Studies show that the best way to be happy is to focus on making others happy.
Stop focusing on what will make you happy.
Stop focusing on what will make you rich.
Stop focusing on what you can get from others.
Instead, ask what you can contribute. What can you give?
I'm not talking about money. Much more valuable is what you can offer in terms of time, art, skill, advice. What can you contribute than no one else can?
Don't brag about it. Don't advertise it. Just figure out what you can contribute and then give.
