Minister FAQ
Are you really a minister? Yes, I am an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church.
Is it legal? It is perfectly legal. Indiana (where I reside and practice) state law outlines who may perform wedding ceremonies
How can you be a secular minister? While most religious denominations have as a central tenet a belief in a supreme being this is not a requirement. One of the world's major religions, Buddhism, does not recognize a creator god.
What other ceremonies can you perform? I can perform any religious ceremonies you want to have performed. These would include baptisms, funerals, renewal of wedding vows, house blessings. If you wish to solemnize your occasion with a spiritual ceremony I can provide you with a dignified, spiritual ceremony.
Your fee seems high for weddings. My fee includes a detailed planning meeting with you, the wedding rehearsal (which you will find very helpful), and the wedding itself. A smooth service requires planning and I want to insure that everything that happens on the day of your ceremony is well-planned and understood by each of you. We will work closely to insure you get the exact wedding you want, customized the way you want it. Your special day is worth it!
My fee for performing a wedding ceremony includes the following:
1. A planning meeting to discuss your wishes for your ceremony. At this time we can go over the parts of the ceremony and how you would like them customized. We can also discuss specific texts, music, and other features.
2. From these discussions I will write up a rough draft of the text for your ceremony and send it to you by email. Together we can revise and as a result of these I will finalize your ceremony text which will be what we will use for your ceremony.
3. We will go over these at the wedding rehearsal to insure you and your partner are completely comfortable with the ceremony and how it will proceed.
4. On the day of your ceremony I will officiate using our agreed upon ceremony text and details. The planning we do together will insure you have the ceremony you want with minimal stress and maximum joy!
